Education & Background

Wu Ming Zhong, born in Hebei, China in 1963, has gained recognition through numerous solo and group exhibitions across Asia, Europe, and the Americas. His artworks are characterized by intense colors, blending classical motifs with a contemporary touch, and a recurring theme of glass, symbolizing transparency and fragility. Using oil and acrylic on canvas, he transforms humans and objects into glass-like figures to depict psychological connections. Critics describe his art as an avant-garde form of Chinese contemporary art, influenced by Political Pop, Cynical Realism, and Gaudy Art, featuring symbols from international politics, history, religion, and pop culture.

Wu Ming Zhong’s personal struggles with cancer have influenced his recent works, which include classical Chinese painting elements like pine trees and red-crowned cranes, reflecting his views on nature and man’s relationship with it.

He serves as the Associate Professor and Director of the Oil Painting Research Office at Capital Normal University. Additionally, he was a visiting scholar at the Liebin Academy of Fine Arts in Russia and Buffalo State College in the USA.

His art has been exhibited in over 30 international exhibitions, including in Hong Kong, Beijing, Singapore, Basel, Germany, and Korea. His works have been displayed in international art museums like The National Art Museum of China, Greek Athens National Contemporary Art Centre, Singapore Art Museum, and The National Museum of Fine Art Cuba. Notably, one of his works achieved an auction record of HK$3M at Poly auction in China in 2008.
