In his youth, Feng Chang Jiang developed an interest in painting and taught himself to be an artist. In 1974, he studied traditional heavy-color meticulous brushwork painting and the replication of ancient frescoes under the guidance of the renowned painter and art historian, Mr. Pan Jiezi. Feng spent significant time at various historical sites, including Yong-le Palace, Qing-long Temple, Fan-zhi Rock, Kai-hua Temple, and Lou-rui Tomb. These experiences greatly influenced his artistic development and laid the groundwork for his later artistic style.
Feng specializes in portraits and landscapes, demonstrating particular skill in painting large scenes. His female portraits are graceful, elegant, and filled with oriental charm, showcasing his profound painting skills and exceptional artistic expression. Feng’s works emphasize the rhythm of traditional lines while integrating vibrant colors, creating a unique style with a strong modern touch. His debut piece, Dance of Red Silk, was successfully exhibited at the Chinese Art Museum and featured in art magazines. Feng gained acclaim both in China and abroad for his heavy-color fine brushwork paintings. He received awards such as the Gold Prize at the Salon Exhibition of France in 1982, the 3rd Prize at the National Art Exhibition in 1984, and the 1st Prize at the National Art Exhibition in 1987, among others. Recognized as an ‘Eminent Artist,’ his biography was featured in the TV documentary Register of Cultural Celebrities in China. In 2008, he was selected as one of the 300 most outstanding artists in the world in recent 200 years by a prominent US art critique website.
In 1997, Feng moved to New York and held his first U.S. exhibition at the Eastern Gallery in Chinatown. Subsequent exhibitions took place at the Benedetti Gallery, the Chinese Art Center in Manhattan, and the Prince Street Gallery. With numerous exhibitions, Feng’s artworks garnered praise from collectors in the U.S. His publications include titles such as Works of Feng Chang Jiang, Selected Works of Feng Chang Jiang, Selected Heavy Color Paintings of Feng Chang Jiang, and Works of Art of Feng Chang Jiang.
