Education & Background
Born and raised in Shanghai, Ann Niu (Niu An) graduated from the renowned Musashino Fine Art University in Japan then moved to Korea and The USA for her art & design career. Understanding her profound passion in painting, she moved back to Shanghai, set up her studio in 2000 and started painting in various mediums. As a young girl, Liu An practiced Chinese calligraphy, her flourishing skills and talent turned her into a great painter. Ann masters very well in the use of lines to create movements, flow and dynamics.
These include shapes, straight lines, curves, ovals and circles. It is always interesting to look at Ann’s artwork repeatedly due to the business of her paintings. Ann’s works are also pictorial and she is fond of including Chinese characters in it, like diary and penmanship.
Ann paints different themes and series, ranging from portraits to studying the complexity of relationship. In her paintings, Liu An wishes to express the feelings of people living in the urban areas. Prior to her artistic career, Ann Niu has had exposure in art and design in both Japan and the USA.
From an early age Ann Niu practiced calligraphy.
This has further aided her development and creativity in her distinctive artworks.
She has an impressive number of public artworks and public collections globally.
